Our Heritage
Gordano Valley Metal Detecting was founded in 2024 to educate metal detectorists at our dedicated skills school in North Somerset. At our core is a deep appreciation of history & the preservation of our heritage in the UK.
Who We Are, Where We Came From, and Where We’re Headed
GVMD-Commercial emerged from the formation of our Skills School in 2024, where we established a structured approach to training detectorists, and then took the step into commercial delivery to fill a gap that was not being addressed elsewhere. What began as hands-on development has been formalised into a defined service: trained operatives, clear procedures, and consistent outputs that integrate directly into commercial archaeological workflows. The focus has been on removing variability and replacing it with a controlled, repeatable standard.

Where we are headed is a continued shift from informal practice to recognised field capability. That means scaling trained teams, refining processes, and embedding metal detecting as a dependable layer within project delivery rather than an ad hoc addition. The objective is not growth for its own sake, but to establish a model that can be deployed reliably across projects of increasing size and complexity without loss of control or quality.
